Tot School - D is for Dolphin, Dog & Duck

Tot School
Kyla is 28 months.
Sorry it's been awhile since you've seen a Tot School post.  I gave up the idea of doing a letter a week or really keeping up with it at all on a regular basis.  It's just not realistic for us right now.  But I figure when I do have time to plan and do these activities, I will post about them!  Some days we just get on a roll and are able to do a lot of fun things.  I also try to do a lot of activities on the weekends when Tyler can play with Kase.

The past weeks/weekend we focused on the letter D.  Kyla can recognize A, B, and C (among others) on a consistent basis.  She loves to randomly point out letters she knows.  And Mama gets excited every time (I blame that on the first child syndrome and getting excited for every little thing).  After our D activities this week, she definitely has it mastered as well!

She used do-a-dots to paint many pictures!

It's also fun that she can name the colors when she wants them.
Little brother loved watching her!
She was so proud of herself.  She kept saying "YAY!"
We made a dog house, which I found here.  I cut the middle of the D out, Kyla glued the puppy inside, and then we taped the door on so it would open and close.

She did the purple dots by herself.  She's getting very good at that!
She thought this was so funny!  Every time she opens the door, she says "Hi!"

I had an extra copy of the D so I let her just paint it.  She only colored the inside of the D and the heart.  Usually she just goes crazy all over the paper.

We ate dinosaur chicken nuggets.

I have heard about the Starfall program on a few other blogs so I thought I'd check it out with the letter D.  Kyla had a lot of fun with it.  She's used to the iPad though so she kept wanting to touch the computer screen.  She doesn't know how to use the laptop mouse, but she had fun pushing the button after I put the cursor in the right place.

I painted Kyla and Kase's feet to make little ducks.  Kyla loved this and Kase just looked at me like I was crazy when I painted his foot.  I got the idea here.  It's one of my favorite blogs to get ideas.

She used watercolors to paint lots of dolphins.

We made a dog puppet out of a paper bag.

She gave the dog lots of hugs, haha.
My cousin gave Kyla this alphabet painting that she painted herself.  Kyla loves it and has been saying her letters every day since she got it!  Thanks so much, Sharon!  We are working on saying the animals/objects too!

I filled up the bathroom sink with shaving cream and let her swim her dolphin and duck around :)

I have never been one to stress about messes.  If she enjoys it, the clean up is worth it!

The boys just watched.  And shook their heads :)
I didn't find any good D books at the library so we just read ones from home.  We read our favorite Dr. Seuss books, which we all love :)

We had a lot of fun with D.  There were some dinosaur activities that we didn't get to, but she has D mastered so I think it's time to move on.  I also bought the stuff to make dirt dessert.  I think we'll do that tomorrow!  Mmm!

Kase - 9 Months

Dear Kase,

You are one funny little boy.  Your doctor loves to see you because you are always so happy and smiley with her.  I hope you continue to smile so nice for my camera.  Your little sister is a stinker when I try to take her picture so I hope she doesn't teach you that!  I love seeing all those teeth when you smile and laugh.  And boy, do you laugh!  Those giggles never get old!

You have had such a great month.  You are eating better, sleeping better and are really starting to move!  You have the army crawl mastered and that is your main mode of getting around the house.  You are always crawling over to Kyla and grabbing her toes or just watching her.  She says "Hi Ace!"  Sometimes she doesn't like to share her toys, but you don't mind.  You usually just find something else to play with.  You like to find her sippy cup and suck on her straw.

I can't believe how much you have changed since you were a baby.  I was looking at your newborn pictures and I can't believe how fast you're growing up.  You look so grown up now!  Only three more months and you won't be my baby anymore.  You'll be a toddler.  A one year old.  Yikes!  I am excited for all the fun things to come though too.

I love you sweet boy.

Love, Mama

Hair Color: Blonde but it has gotten a little darker
Teeth:  4 on top and 4 on bottom (you had 5 come in at one time!)
Next Doctor Appointment: August 27th (12 month checkup)

You are waking up around 7:00 nowadays.  Yesterday was 8:00.  Some days are 6:00.  But I'd say average is 7:00.  If you wake up around 6:00, you take a nap around 9:00 for about an hour.  If you get up around 8:00, you usually can make it through the morning without a nap.  You go down for your long nap around 12:30 and wake up around 3:00 or 3:30.  You still sleep with me when I want to lay down.  You sleep much better and for much longer when you're in bed with me.  I love these naps together!  You are then up until bedtime, which is right around 8:15.  We put you down awake and you (usually) do not fuss.  You are sleeping within 10 minutes usually.  Such an awesome boy :)

You are doing SO much better, just in the last two weeks.  You are eating 6-7 ounces of formula, four or five times a day.  You are eating purees twice a day and doing great with them!  I just needed to get the 2nd foods that are a mixture and taste much better!  You aren't eating a lot of table foods yet and still gagging on pretty much anything but the purees.  But it will come, I have no doubt.

~Cruising around in your walker, running into everything.
~We started brushing your teeth with a toothbrush.  You're not quite sure about this.
~You manage to scratch your face regardless of how short your nails are.
~You are all boy.  Aggressive and like to play rough.  And scratch yourself.  Down there.
~You pinch Mama's cheeks and nose so hard I feel like I'm going to have a bruise.
~You gave Daddy a good scratch on his nose.
~You don't really like to be snuggled.  You like to be held, but not to sleep.  You did fall asleep in my arms at Brat Fest though.  And my arms felt it the next day!
~You are officially out of the baby bath and into the big tub.  You have taken a few baths with Kyla, but we usually do you separate because you're still a little wobbly and she's a little crazy in there!
~You played in the grass for the first time.
~You enjoy our daily walks.
~You sit in the back of the double stroller and kick Kyla the entire time.  Not sure how much longer this stroller is going to work with you two crazy kids.
~You aren't pulling yourself up.  Your doctor said it takes bigger babies longer.  You can put weight on your legs, just can't balance on them on your own yet.
~You haven't gone swimming yet, but will be this weekend!  I can't wait to see how you like the water.
~You will pretty much go to anyone, but as soon as you see Mom or Dad across the room, you get upset.
~You suck your thumb once in awhile.
~You enjoy tearing up paper and totally destroyed one of Mama's magazines.
~You love to play with remotes.

Happy 9 months Kase man!

My New Job

I mentioned yesterday that I was starting a new job next Monday.  You know, one of the reasons I needed all those new clothes.  Ahem.  Anyway, I quit working at the gym a few months ago now, for a few different reasons.  The main one being that when I was hired, I agreed to work two nights a week.  Well, they had two managers and some employees quit, leaving a ton of open shifts.  Some of these shifts were being assigned and I just wasn't willing to give up all that family time.  I was working there as a way to get out of the house a couple nights a week, but it was getting to be more stress than it was worth.

I started looking at part time jobs again, but wasn't really having much luck with things I wanted to do and the schedules.  I still want to be home with the kids the majority of the time.  I just need a little "mental break" once in awhile to keep my brain busy and distracted.  Luckily for me, my brother started his own business a few years ago and said he had some work for me!  It couldn't be more perfect and I am beyond excited!

I am going to start out just working one full day and one half day a week.  I'm going to be doing a variety of things, but mainly testing new features before they go live and research projects.  Basically whatever my brother tells me to do!

I know it probably seems silly to some people, but I am really excited.  I'm looking forward to having somewhere to be and something to keep my mind busy for a few hours.  Luckily some sweet family members are helping out with the kids this summer so they will get to be in the comfort of their own home with familiar faces.

I'm very thankful for my brother giving me this opportunity and for my mom and soon to be sister-in-law for watching the kids!

Weekend Shenanigans

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend!  Our weather was pretty crappy, but we still had a nice, long weekend!  I'm linking up to share all about it!

Sami's Shenanigans

Saturday we went to Brat Fest.  Only in Wisconsin do you have the World's Largest Brat Fest, right?  They have a carnival, music, and lots of brats!  It was kind of a chilly day, but we met up with our friends who are back from San Diego so it was fun to see them and their little boy.  At least it didn't rain while we were there!

Kase enjoyed hanging out on the blanket.  He eventually fell asleep in my arms.

How cute is her little puffer vest?  Not sure about that silly face though :)

Kyla was so excited about the geese!

Sunday we went to my cousin Jill's graduation party.  Kyla was a bit of a stinker, but it was a good time.  Before we left, while I took every single thing out of my closet in an attempt to find something to wear, Kyla and I took some silly self portraits.  She was being so funny, making all kinds of different faces.

(I don't know why they look so weird.  Maybe since it's the reverse camera function on my phone?)

Later that night we got the kids bedrooms in order.  Since we put the twin bed in Kyla's room, both their rooms were a little bit of a mess.  We took the rocker out of Kyla's room (which is now in the basement) and moved her dresser over there.  She had the big area open in the corner so I decided to bring up her papasan chair from the basement.

We are going to paint the dark green wall the same color as the other lighter green walls.  And I got that canvas picture by the window at Target, along with another cute picture to hang up.
Kase had two changing tables, one in the corner and one in the closet for storage.  Since we no longer use the one to change him on, we decided to get rid of it.  We had this blue recliner in our bedroom so we could rock him when he was a baby.  It fit well in his room so now we can sit and read him his stories before bed on there.

The green tote back there isn't very decorative, but the kid grows out of his clothes so fast that I'd be running up and down the stairs every other day to pack stuff away.  So it's staying in there!
We kept the one changing table in his closet because it makes good storage since his clothes aren't long enough for it to be in the way.  Yet!

On Monday, Tyler was a sweetheart and let me sleep in AND go shopping!  I needed some new clothes so bad.  I had a couple pair of jean capris that I had bought a few weeks ago, but no shirts.  I had a lot of cute shirts, but most were from before I had babies and were just too tight.  A bigger belly and wider hips will do that to ya I guess!  Plus I'm starting a new job next week (more on that later) so I wanted a few new things for that.  I got a TON of stuff, from both Old Navy and Gap.  I'm really excited about it all.  It was such a good feeling to clean out my closets and dressers.  Holy cow, I had a lot of stuff!  All my maternity stuff finally got packed away in the basement and I have all of this for sale or donation...

Two totes, one huge box and three bags full.

This is what my bedroom looked like mid-cleaning.

This is my closet after...I forgot to take a before picture, but there was literally no room for anymore hangers.  And I only actually wore a few things.  The top shelf was full of maternity stuff.  Oh, and I'm selling about 20 pairs of shoes!
I didn't take a picture of all my new stuff, but I got three pair of skinny cropped pants (coral, white and black), a shirt dress for work, three pairs of shorts, and I think 6 or 7 shirts.  I'm SO excited!  I need to get a couple pairs of cute shoes plus I need a swim suit for a waterpark birthday party this weekend.  I will be making a trip to Target this week.  But I need to give Tyler a couple days to forget about how much I spent yesterday :)

One last thing from our weekend...Kyla wore some pigtail braids for the first time.  Seriously, so stinking cute!  We will be sporting these again soon!

We've also been very busy with Tot School and the letter D.  I will post about that later this week!  And tonight we have Kase's 9 month checkup so I can get his post finished up!

May is for Mom's - Part Three

How did I forget about part three of the May is for Mom's linkup?  It's still May so I think it's ok to still do it!  The first part was an interview with myself, which you can find here.  Part two was an interview with my mom (which I loved) and you can find that here.

Part three is an interview with my kids.  Since they can't really answer (well, at least not that I could completely understand anyway), Tyler was kind enough to answer for them.  So here is what Daddy thinks Kyla and Kase would say!

1.  What is your favorite thing that you and I do together?
Kyla - I don't especially like going to bed, but my favorite thing is when we read and sing right before I go to sleep.  I think you're a great singer Mommy, even though you don't think so.
Kase - I love hanging out with you first thing in the morning when I get up.  It's my best shot at getting some one-on-one time with you before big sister gets up and then you have to watch us both.  Why do you think I get up so early???  :)

2.  What is something important I have taught you that you will always remember?  (i.e. Be nice to everyone, always make your bed, etc.)
Kyla - You're trying to teach me my "please & thank yous", but I can be a stinker when you get me to try and say them.  You know that if you really want me to say something, I'll just give you a smirk and say nothing at all, right?
Kase - You're teaching me how important it is to be nice and share.  You're always helping me and Kyla share our toys, which I really appreciate now since she's bigger than me.

3.  What is your most special memory about me?
Kyla - How excited you were to see me the day after Kase was born.  You missed me so much and you only hadn't seen me for one day!
Kase - It was the day I was born and you said right away how small I looked.  I fooled you then, and look at me now- my "stats" are off the charts!

4.  What is something nice I always say to you?
Kyla - I love you my silly girl.
Kase - I love you my big man.

5.  How are you and I the same?  How are we different?
Kyla - We're the same because we both love to giggle and smile.  We're different in that I can get really rambunctious, and you're pretty calm & relaxed.
Kase - We're the same in that we're both pretty "chill" people and don't get into much drama.  We're different in that I've got something growing between my legs and you don't.  I'll ask Dad about it later.

Since it's still May, you guys should do this interview with your kids (or hubbies).  I'd love to see what some of your little ones have to say!  It was fun reading my kids Daddy's answers :)
