I feel like I have a newborn

Actually, Kase's sleeping habits the last couple weeks are worse than a newborn.  Kyla goes to bed at 8:00 every night and sleeps awesome.  Always has.  Even now with a cold and cough, she sleeps so well and usually until about 8:00 each morning.

Once she's in bed, we get Kase bathed, fed and put to sleep by about 8:30-8:45.  Tyler and I usually go to bed around 10:00.  He falls asleep within 5 minutes of his head hitting the pillow (it seems that way anyway). I take at least an hour to fall asleep, sometimes a lot longer.

So when Kase wakes up at 1:30 every morning, I feel like I was just finally in a deep sleep.  We take turns putting his pacifier back in his mouth, but it never fails, he wakes up crying every 10 minutes.  For the first few nights I would just feed him a bottle because I figured he'd go to sleep with a full belly, which he usually did.  But then I realized he was starting to think he needed a bottle every morning at that time.  He was sick though and not eating much so I just felt bad not feeding him.  And there comes a point where you know you need some sleep so if feeding him a bottle is what it takes to get some, so be it.

We try everything to get him back to sleep.  I rub his head, which he absolutely loves.  I rock him.  Tyler goes out to sleep on the couch so Kase can sleep by me.  I put his pacifier in when he loses it.  Before I know it, it's 6:00 and Tyler is up getting ready for work.  It is at that moment that I wish I could go to work for a day.  I wish I could get a mental break from sick, crying babies.

At this very moment, I think I might just be happy with my two kids.  This sleep deprivation thing is not fun.  I am really hoping when he is fully healthy, he will sleep better.  He has Kyla's cold now (it was just a matter of time) so he's having a hard time breathing and coughing quite a bit.  I also ordered a teething necklace that should be here any day.  I'm not totally convinced that they work, but I have read so many of your stories so I figured it was worth a try.  I will post more on that once we get it and have time to see how/if it works.  I am thankful that all the crying in the middle of the night isn't waking Kyla up (knock on wood).

Another negative of this newborn-like sleeping is that he's no longer napping when Kyla does.  He's exhausted by 10:00 every morning and takes a good nap.  So by 12:30 when Kyla's ready for a nap, he's waking up and is ready to party.

The one thing that helps me deal with being tired and cranky is exercising.  The problem?  If I do get them to nap at the same time, I am so freaking exhausted that I have no energy to get on the treadmill.  I feel like if I am going to make it through the rest of the day, I need to lay down.  I tell myself I will go on the treadmill after I get Kase to bed.  Well, when it's almost 9:00 at night, the only thing I want to do is curl up on the couch or in bed.  Excuses, excuses, right?

I am not one that can function on four hours of sleep.  So please, Kase man, can you start sleeping a little longer for Mommy and Daddy?  I know Tyler is exhausted every day at work and I am not very sympathetic, which I feel bad about.  Being a stay at home mom is hard.  95% of the time it's awesome.  But 5% of the time, I think about how nice it would be to just get a break.

Sorry for yet another downer post.  And sorry for no pictures - I am too lazy to get the camera out and we are all still in our pj's.  The great thing about having a blog is that you can write about whatever is on your mind.  I feel like I am a pretty positive person.  But I also have days (or maybe weeks in this case) where I am physically and emotionally exhausted and need to complain a little.  As always, I am so incredibly thankful for my babies.  And thankful for all of you who continue to read this blog and don't judge me.  Or if you do, you keep it to yourself, haha :)

On the bright side, today is the last day of this awful month.  Bring on March!

So What Wednesday

So What Wednesday
I love So What Wednesday's.  Especially when I have very limited blogging time and no creative energy to write a real post.  So here we go...

So what, if I woke up today thinking it was Friday.

So what, if Kyla is wearing a ridiculous outfit today.  She has a nasty cold and is still learning how to use tissues.  She prefers wiping her snot on her sleeve so we choose a cheap Walmart shirt for today.  And she insisted on wearing the brown shoes.

So what, if I have the toughest little boy ever.  He is feeling a little better, but still having diarrhea and not eating the best.  Still smiling through it all though!

So what, if I got peed on last night.  He was one dry diaper away from having to go to the ER for an IV so I was more than excited!

So what, if Kyla can't quite get two fingers up to show how old she is.  She's getting closer!

So what, if I haven't worked out since Sunday.  I was starting to get into such a great routine and feeling so good about myself.  My babies come first though so I need to get them healthy!

So what, if we get one more snow storm I am going to take the kids and run far, far away to a warm, tropical place.  Or have an emotional breakdown.  One or the other.

So what, if I can't stand plain white socks.

So what, if i just took a picture of my feet.

So what, if I am extremely disappointed with the new DWTS cast.  But I heard Bachelor Sean is doing it, they just haven't announced him yet.  But still, not excited at all for this season.

So what, if my daughter likes taking her pants off.  She will love this picture in about 15 years :)

What are you saying So What to this week?

Trendy Tot Tuesday - Naartjie

What's worse than having a sick baby?  Having a sick baby AND a sick toddler.  Kyla woke up this morning with a nasty cold.  But she agreed to a quick fashion show for Trendy Tot Tuesday.

Since I am officially done with winter and we're getting more snow tonight, I wanted to share some new Spring clothes I got for Kyla.  Have you heard of Naartjie?  My friend Shawna told me about it awhile ago and I am obsessed.  It's a little pricey, but the stuff is so unique and they often have sales.  Other than these new Spring outfits, Kyla has a few outfits that she has worn this winter.  Every single time we go out, she gets compliments.  Like I said, it's all very unique.  And I think the bellbottom look on little girls is so adorable.

As always, you can click on any picture to enlarge it and get a better look :)

The little leggings have elephants on them.  I think this is my favorite dress.  It fits her perfectly.
This dress is actually on sale on their website - today only!  It's regular $25 and on sale for $15.
A tank tunic and the elephant leggings in a different color.  I think Kyla needs some work on her modeling poses :)

The pictures don't do this one justice at all.  It's SO stinking cute on her.
How cute are those little capris?

Rosy cheeks and snotty nose, but being a good sport :)

This dress is the same color scheme as the first one, but this one is a little more "out there".  I love it though.  Since I already had the purple leggings, I ordered the same color.

This is the latest modeling pose, in case you guys were wondering :)

I have ordered a few things for Kase from Naartjie, but boy stuff just isn't nearly as cute.  I usually have pretty simple taste when it comes to fashion, but I am in love with their stuff for girls.

Here are a couple pictures of Kyla's older Naartjie outfits.

I'm very thankful Shawna shares her fashion secrets with me!  Although my wallet and husband are probably not so thankful :)  There's one more dress I really want in yellow.  We don't have any yellow yet, so I think that is a good enough reason, right?

Now I'm off to figure out how I can grow two extra arms so I can hold both my babies at the same time since they both need their Mama.

Go over to Megan's blog and share off your trendy tots!

It's been a LONG four days!

Kase was supposed to have his six month checkup tonight at 5:45.  Unfortunately I had to take him in yesterday morning because he is STILL sick.  He threw up three times Thursday night, which is when it all started.  Since then, he has had diarrhea with every single diaper.  Literally - diarrhea almost every hour for four straight days.  And because of that, he has a nasty diaper rash :(

As of Sunday, he wasn't peeing much.  He's also not eating a whole lot.  We were worried he was getting dehydrated so we got him in yesterday morning.  Good news - he isn't dehydrated.  Yet.  Bad news - he threw up again yesterday morning, isn't eating much, still has the diarrhea and diaper rash.  And the doctor said he could very well be dehydrated by morning (meaning this morning).

Sigh.  My usually happy, chill baby is miserable and it breaks my heart.  We will see how he is this morning and if he wakes up with any urine in his diaper.  I'm praying this all ends soon.  He has been getting up at 2:00 in the morning and staying awake.  Needless to say, Mom and Dad are pooped!

We're having lots of extra snuggle time.
Kyla has been very good, even with less attention than she's used to.  She was so excited to see the fish at the clinic yesterday.  She also insisted on wearing those little brown shoes.  I tried to grab a different pair and she said NO and pushed them away.

She also refuses to wear her old tennis shoes.  She will only wear her Nike's, even though they are size 7 and still a little big.  I have to admit, they're pretty darn adorable and I've been waiting for them to fit!

Hopefully I will have something more exciting to blog about tomorrow!  We're supposed to get another 3-5 inches of snow tonight.  Sleep deprived, sick baby, and stuck in the house.  Yippee!

February 22, 2013

Loving:  My sweet babies, of course!

Reading:  Counting Cockatoos and all of our other "C" books

Waiting for:  Kase's first two teeth to fully come in.  They're poked through the gums and they are sharp!

Using:  Lots of Resolve to clean up all of Kase's puke :(

Excited about:  The kids being able to wear their new Spring/Summer clothes.

Trying to:  Get rid of my migraine.  Taking care of a sick baby and an energetic 2 year old while having a migraine and a sore throat is not easy.

Working on:  Getting Kyla to talk more (that we can understand)

Enjoying:  Some down time so I can blog quick

Wearing:  My pj's

Planning:  A visit to see my Grandma tomorrow, assuming everyone is healthy.  She hasn't seen the kids in awhile so she will be so excited.

Learning:  To be thankful for having two safe and healthy pregnancies.  My brother shared a blog with me the other day of a girl he knows.  He used to work with her husband.  They just had their first child, born at 29 weeks and only 2 pounds.  The little guy is really fighting, but has a lot of obstacles standing in his way.  Sometimes it's easy to forget just how fragile life is.

Listening to:  Special Agent Oso (Kyla's new favorite - she's done with Mickey).

Singing:  Nothing at this very moment, but we've been singing the ABC's a lot lately, trying to get Kyla to learn them.

Needing:  Some new workout pants.  I only have long pants and they're way too hot.  I need some capris and shorts.

Wishing:  Kase was feeling better and my migraine would go away.

Doing:  This blog post, eating breakfast, and rocking Kase in the swing.

Dreaming of:  Warm weather.  We just got about 5 inches of snow last night and I have officially had it with winter.  This needs to be the last snowfall.  I need to get these kids out of the house before we all go crazy.  I know it's the same every year around this time, but this week I really got the winter blues.

Now that you've listened to me complain about feeling like crap, having a sick baby and hating winter, what are you all up to? :)

My Favorite Little Helper

Kyla is at such a fun age right now.  She wants to be at my side from the moment she gets up to the time I tuck her in at night.  I have to admit, I get a little annoyed sometimes.  Like, can I just get two minutes to send an email without you bouncing on my lap?  But for the most part, I love it!

She is really into helping me too.  Sometimes it's more work than anything, but it's so fun to watch her get excited when she helps Mama out.  Also, she's been loving the gym daycare and when I went to pick them up one day last week, one of the girls said, "Kyla is such a great helper!  She always helps pick up toys and one little girl dumped all the crayons out and Kyla helped us pick them all up."  I was so excited to hear that.  When she's home with me all the time, I feel like I take certain things for granted.  Even though she only spends an hour in the daycare, I always worry that she will be naughty or get upset.  But every time I get the kids, the girls tell me how great she was.  I just squeeze her and the whole way home I tell her how much I love her and how proud of her I am.  She looks at me and smiles :)

She loves helping with her brother.  She comes with me every time I change his diaper and always grabs the dirty one and takes it to the garbage.

She also gives him his nuk when he cries.  She makes this grunt noise when he pops it back out.  It's like she's saying "Come on brother, I'm trying to help you here!"

When I take a shower during the day, I leave my bathroom door open.  I always put a cartoon on for her and as soon as she hears the shower shut off, I can hear little feet running as fast as they can to the bathroom.  She says "All done" and grabs the towel and hands it to me.  It's so cute.

She loves to help me do dishes.  When she sees me by the sink, she tries her hardest to pull up a chair.  Yes, it's mostly a hassle and a big mess, but I love how excited she gets.

I let her help me put the dishes away from the dishwasher too.  She is in charge of the silverware.  She grabs about two things at a time and puts them in the drawer.  As you can tell, we get things a little mixed up, but who really cares :)

She gets us burp cloths when we need one.  She throws anything away that we ask.  If we ask her to get something, she will always say "Where'd it go?" and then laugh when she finds it.

I love my little Mama's girl and never want her to be too old to want to hang out with me.

Date Night

First, I just have to share the flowers Tyler bought me for Valentine's Day.  I'm not sure what I did to deserve these beauties, but wow, he did awesome!  Two dozen beautiful roses and I love that they are spring colors.

We also started the tradition of a heart pizza on Valentine's Day.

Along with my flowers, I got a cute little teddy bear that Kyla loves, some chocolates, and some bubble bath stuff.

Last Friday my mom was kind enough to come up and babysit so Tyler and I could go out to eat.  We planned on going to a movie too, but Kase has been a major Mama's boy lately, only wanting me to hold him at night.  I didn't want my mom to have a screaming baby so we came home after dinner.  It was still so nice to get out!  I have been craving Mexican food for a couple months so that's what we had.

While we were waiting for our food to come (and while we ate that whole basket of chips and salsa), we started talking about our last date night.  Last July for our anniversary.  Of course we got our Rose Bowl trip, which was kind of like one long date, but our anniversary was the last time we got a babysitter and just got dinner, just the two of us.  We started a list of things that have happened since our last date night.  Here's what we came up with.
The birth of our son
My gallbladder surgery
Tyler's new job
My 30th birthday
Both of Tyler's brothers got engaged
Christmas as a family of four
Kyla's 2nd birthday
We both agreed that we need date nights a little more often :)

Trendy Tot Tuesday

I'm so excited Megan, Kelly, and Lindsay started this fun Trendy Tot Tuesday link up.  I love dressing Kyla cute and am quickly realizing that boy clothes are actually pretty darn adorable too!

I am one of those mom's that think it's absolutely adorable to dress your children alike.  I know some people think it's awful.  Since I have a boy and a girl, it's not the easiest, but I am going to take advantage of every opportunity I get!

Thanks to these bunny pj's from Gymboree, my babies will be waking up Easter morning not only cuter than ever, but they will match.  I have to admit, neither one of them *needed* new pj's, but when my blogger friend Shawna showed them, I HAD to have them.  Like I said, I probably won't get too many chances to match Kyla and Kase, so this had to happen.  Hopefully my husband will see these cute pictures and forgive me for spending the money :)

I put them on this morning for two reasons - for this link up and I was afraid they wouldn't fit them by Easter.  Gymboree pj's run small and the tops run very slim.  Kyla is 25 months and is wearing a 3T and Kase is almost 6 months and is wearing 18-24 months.  I looked at both tops and worried that I could even squeeze them on my kids.  But luckily, they both are fine and might just still fit in a couple months when Easter comes around.

Kyla isn't feeling well and was not at all interested in a morning photo shoot.  Kase, on the other hand, was eating it up :)  And please forgive me for the crazy amount of pictures.  If you're new to my blog, that is very common around here.  I just can't decide which ones to post, so I post a bunch!

Yes, she was bribed with my phone.  Don't judge.

"Whatcha doing over there, sis?"

Poor thing :(  Gianna was home sick yesterday and today...two sleepovers and both times Kyla ended up sick.  Cousin love is sometimes too much love!

He's a happy boy this morning though!

Trying to get a full body shot :)
Show Mama the bunny!

The thought for this picture was there, just didn't really have the execution :)

Go on over to either of the three ladies' blogs (links are in their names at the beginning of this post) and show us your cute tots!  I can't wait to read all of the other blogs.  I'm sure Shawna will show us all up with her fashion geniusness (yes, I just made up my own word for her).
And don't judge me, but I think I might let the kids wear these all day.  They're just so cute and snuggly!
What do you guys think?  Do you match your kids?
