Tot School is Back!

And better than ever!

Since Kyla will be two this week (crazy, I know!), I am starting the alphabet with her.  The plan is to focus on one letter per week.  The goal will be letter identification, but really I just want her to have some exposure to the alphabet.  We will talk about the sounds, but I think we will probably focus more on that when she's three.

My plan is to take her to the library on Saturday mornings and get some books for the following week that relate to what we'll be doing.  I don't think taking both kids during the week in the middle of the winter sounds like a lot of fun.  So Daddy will stay home with Kase.

We will do a variety of activities throughout the week.  I'm not going to have super high expectations right away because I'm still not in a perfect schedule with feedings, naps, etc.  So whenever we have a chance, we will pull out an activity.  If we don't get to things, oh well.  We'll do our best.  We will do crafts, cooking projects, coloring, painting, and just other fun things that help reinforce the week's theme/letter.  Kyla's friend Dean and his mom Erin (our neighbors) are going to come over at least once a week to do tot school with us.  He was two in October and him and Kyla are so great together.  It will be fun to have someone else to do this with!

I'm really excited to give Kyla this extra attention.  She loves to learn new things and loves attention from Mama even more.  I'm sure there are some things she'll like better than others.  I'm sure some letters will have to go two weeks because we just didn't have time.  And I certainly don't expect her to be a genius child.  But I know whatever we do will be beneficial for her.  I believe that any exposure is better than nothing.

Stay tuned to see how our letter A week went!  We have our library books ready!

  1. So fun!

Brielle shocked me the other day....she had an alphabet puzzle and brought me the "x" and then said "x!" ....and suddenly I was thinking she had miraculously, without my knowledge, taught herself all her letters or something lol. But then I started quizzing her on other letters and she stared at me like I was speaking in alien tongues :-P She must have just gotten really lucky with x!

    1. Haha, Kyla already has "A" down, but we'll see how long it lasts. She is walking around saying A, A, A. Tomorrow Dean is coming over for some fun projects :)

  2. I cant wait to hear how it goes...Breanna knows the alphabet as a song but yet to recognize the actual letter. Weve been doing a lot of flash cards that helps, I am going to be pulling out the counting bears soon too she is starting to learn colors!

    1. I know, I am going crazy and I still have a good 2 months of being stuck indoors. Trying to make the days as fun as possible for her. She is less likely to whine and get into trouble if I keep her busy :)
