Daddy Goes Back to Work

Tyler had to go back to work Tuesday so it was my first week at home with both kids.  I have to admit, I was really nervous.  Kyla had been a handful when Tyler was home so I worried that it would be worse when it was just me and she didn't get as much attention.

Here is a summary of our week:

Kase has been getting up three times a night usually.  I feed him around 8:30 or 9:00.  He then gets up around 11:00, 3:00, and 7:00 (give or take an hour for each feeding).

I hear Kyla banging her feet on her wall around 8:00 each morning.  That and talking to her baby.   I let her play in her crib while I get Kase up, feed him and change his diaper.  I then lay him down while I get Kyla up and change her.  I get her some milk and cereal and put Mickey on so I can feed Kase again.  He usually eats in three separate parts.  Eat, burp, eat, get a new diaper, and eat again.  Once he's all fed, I either put him in his swing or on the floor mat so I can pump.

After I pump, Kase usually falls asleep in my arms around 9:30 and then I put him in his swing.  He sleeps for a good two hours in there while Kyla and I play.  She loves this time with me.  We have been doing a lot of Tot School activities.  Some day I will get back to my regular Tot School posts.

I've been letting her color on our dry erase board, which she thinks is the coolest thing EVER.  She likes to doodle, erase it all, and doodle some more.

We've also been working on puzzles...

Taking silly pictures...

Around 11:45 I get lunch for Kyla.  Kase usually wakes up when she's eating so I feed him while she sits at the table and eats.  Depending on how tired she is, I'll either change her diaper and put her down for a nap or let her play for a little bit before her nap.  She has been napping from about 12:30-3:30.

After Kase is fed and changed, I get him to sleep and put him in his crib for a nap.  I have been taking advantage of the time they are both sleeping to get some sleep for myself.  I am averaging about 4 hours at night so even an hour during the day really helps.

Kase is usually up first around 3:00 to eat.  Kyla gets up around 3:30 and has a snack.  We have been just hanging out and playing until Tyler gets home around 5:45-6:00.

I have also been letting Kyla do some craft activities in the afternoon.  She got to paint with water colors for the first time.  She did great!  Her favorite part was dipping the paint brush in the water :)

Do-a-dots are one of the best inventions ever.  She loves them!

Monday night I organized Kyla's little toy corner and replaced almost all of the toys that were there with some new ones from downstairs.  She hardly ever played with any of them so I thought if I brought up some new ones, maybe she'd play independently with them this week.  It worked!  I am going to do this every week or every couple of days so she always has "new" toys to play with.  Her favorite was the cup of counting bears.  It's amazing how dumping them out and putting them back in over and over again can be so entertaining!

The Mickey Mouse flash cards from the Target dollar section are fun to throw all over the place.

Feeding her baby

This is why I cannot take my eyes off of her when Kase is on the floor or in the swing.  She hasn't hit him or anything, but just her playing with that near him is enough to scare me a bit.

Just hanging out :)

I also decided that if Kyla is a good girl in the morning (with no timeouts) that she can play on the iPad after her nap for 20 minutes.  I know she doesn't understand all that right now, but I'm hoping as she gets older, these types of rewards will help.

Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better week.  Both Kyla and Kase were so unbelievably good.  Kyla was such a good girl.  Every morning that I put Kase on the floor so I can pump, she lays next to him and talks to him.  She also likes to gently pat on his belly.  I told her that I should take her shopping this weekend and buy her something special for being so awesome.  Daddy rolled his eyes.  The same guy that took her to Target and bought her a stuffed, barking puppy because she was just so cute sitting in the cart :)  I am dying to go shopping!  I don't even know what I want to buy.  I think I just want out of the house for a little bit.

I do realize that not every day is going to be great.  I'm not living in a fantasy land.  But I'm pretty pumped about how these first days went.  Being a SAHM is the best job ever!
