Day in the Life

I thought it would be fun to document our typical daily routine so I can look back at this when I have two kids and see how much it changes (and how easy I had it).

6:30 - Tyler's alarm goes off and he gets ready for the day.

7:15 - Tyler leaves for work.

8:30-10:00 - Sometime in this time frame Kyla wakes up, gets changed, has her milk and breakfast (usually cereal during the week and eggs and toast or waffles on the weekend).  She also gets to watch a little bit of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while I eat and do some morning blogging.

10:00-11:30 - We play and do Tot School.

11:30-12:00 - Lunch time

12:00-3:00 - Nap time

3:00-3:15 - Kyla wakes up from her nap, I change her and she eats snack

3:15-4:00 - Play, play, play.  And we do projects, paint or color at the table during this time.

4:00-5:00 - Depending on what I'm making for dinner and how long it takes, I start cooking in this hour.  If I'm lucky, Kyla will play by herself.  But usually she sits in the kitchen and "helps" me cook (aka - digs in the cupboards).  We like to put the kitchen radio on and dance while we cook :)

5:00-5:30 - Sometime in here Tyler gets home from work and usually the first thing he gets to do is change a diaper :)  I finish getting dinner ready and serve it up.

5:30-6:00 - I clean up, put leftovers away, etc and Tyler and Kyla play.  She misses Daddy when he's at work so she loves this time!

6:00-7:30 - We play together as a family.  We try to leave the TV off and just enjoy our time together.  Sometimes we go for a ride if Kyla and I need to get out of the house for awhile, which usually leads to a trip to Culver's for ice cream.  We take Kyla outside a lot during this time since I can't get out with her much lately.  I water my flowers.  We go to the park or just play in the yard.

7:30-8:00 - We get Kyla ready for bed.  She has some milk, gets a bath (usually every other night), gets her pj's on, gets a bedtime story, and off to dream land.  She never fusses when we put her to bed.  We can usually hear her rolling around and playing in there for awhile, but she is so great about bedtime.

8:00-8:30 - Tyler and I pick up the house and clean up the toys so Kyla can get them all out again in the morning :)

8:30-10:00 - We watch TV or do stuff on the computer.  I often watch TV upstairs and Tyler downstairs because we both DVR shows that the other one doesn't like.  Or I will go down there with him and blog and beg for a back rub :)

10:00 - Time for bed for Mom & Dad so we can wake up and do it all over again!

Since I am very pregnant, I'm not able to take Kyla out and about much anymore so we spend a lot of time at home.  I can't wait to be able get out more, even if it means hauling two little ones around!

Stay tuned for a second edition of "Day in the life" in a couple of months when I have an almost two year old and a newborn.  Should be fun :)

  1. That sounds like what my days (on maternity leave) were like before I had #2. It was hard for us to go anywhere also in the later days of pregnancy but I was so excited after I had her because now all tree of us go on long walks..it's the best!

  2. Oh, I love your wake up time---ours is usually by 6:30!!! Savor it for a couple more weeks before that baby arrives;) Have a great weekend!

  3. I must admit...im a little jealous of your wake up time too! I work in the mornings so im up by 6. ughh....one day ill get to sleep in ;)

I love your post though its so fun to see what others do day to day....maybe ill do a post like this soon! lol

  4. What is the world do you drug that child with that keeps her sleeping in that long?! haha. I've been pumped lately that my girls make it to 7am :-P

And boy oh boy, I'm going to love seeing your new "schedule" when baby comes! hehe.

  5. This was fun! :) Can't wait to see how your schedule changes when baby comes. (I was actually thinking about doing a post like this for while I am in the hospital because everyone keeps asking what I do, but you can imagine how boring of a post that would be - haha!)

I think my fav. part of your day is the getting out and heading to Culvers!
