Taco Braid

Tacos were on the menu for last Tuesday so I decided to change it up and try a Taco Braid.  I got the recipe from Life as a Lofthouse.

Ingredients
1 lb. ground beef
1 packet taco seasoning
1 cup water
1 can refried beans
1/2 cup salsa
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can Pillsbury pizza dough

Directions
 1.  Unravel pizza dough onto greased cookie sheet and let sit while you brown the ground beef.
2.  Once beef is cooked, drain, add water and taco seasoning.  Mix well and let simmer for 5-10 minutes on low.
3.  Shape pizza dough out on cookie sheet in a large rectangle.
4.  Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut one inch strips down the sides of dough (see picture below).
5.  In the center of dough, spread refried beans (I did not use a whole can because I'm not a huge fan).
6.  Spread the seasoned ground beef on the beans.  Drizzle salsa on beef.  Sprinkle cheese evenly.
7.  Braid the strips of dough over the top (As you will see, my braid looks terrible.  Hopefully practice will make perfect for next time)
8.  Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown.  Let cool for 5 minutes before digging in!  Easy peasy!

I can't believe I'm even sharing these pictures.  I don't think you're supposed to be able to see the insides.  I think my dough got a little too spread out.
Haha, I told you my pictures were bad.  Some of the insides leaked out and burned on the pan.  Oops.  Hopefully next time the presentation will be a little better :)

Time to dig in
The taco braid verdict?  Tyler loved it, but Kyla wasn't impressed.  It was hard for her to eat so I think she got a little frustrated.  She ate a few good bites so she didn't hate it, but it's no mac & cheese!  Tyler added some salsa on top of his and you could add sour cream if you're into that type of thing.  This got another "add it to the rotation" from Tyler.  He said it's much better than regular old tacos.
