Another bittersweet birthday

Kyla had a great birthday.  She had her one year checkup today and weighs 23 pounds 3 ounces (82nd percentile) and is 30 inches (79th percentile).  Her head is 46.5 cm (86th percentile).

She was such a good girl for the doctor.  She was talking up a storm!  She had to get four shots though.  And you can imagine how that went :(

Although we had a great time celebrating Kyla's first birthday yesterday, it was bittersweet.  My uncle lost his battle with cancer yesterday.  He was an amazing man, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.  He has an adorable grandson who was born in June.  He will surely be missed.

Every year we celebrate Kyla's birthday, we will remember Uncle Dan.  Although Kyla won't remember him, we will make sure to tell her about him and her Uncle Jim that she didn't get to meet, who also lost his life to cancer exactly 13 months ago.  My mom married my step dad in 1999 and his family has been absolutely amazing to my mom and us kids.  I am so thankful to have all of them in our lives.

We will be celebrating and remembering Dan at his funeral on Saturday so Kyla's birthday party is going to be Sunday instead.  She doesn't know the difference.  And if she did, I know she would understand.  And now we will also make it a Packer party too!

RIP Uncle Dan!

  2. So sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle.

Kyla sounds about the exact weight that Raya was at that age! Miss Brielle on the other hand, last week she was 21 lbs and 27 inches long haha. They don't get their short little legs from me!

Have a great party on Sunday!
