Bittersweet Birthday - RIP Grandpa Jack

I turned 29 yesterday.  And I'm ok with it.  I just hope the next 364 days go as slow as possible!  I apologize I have been MIA from blogger world.  I will catch up with you all tomorrow!

It was my first birthday as a Mommy and having Kyla here with me was all I've ever wanted.  A big thank you to my mother-in-law for the sweet card and Michael's gift card.  Kyla and I cannot wait to go shopping!  Thank you!

Unfortunately, it was the last birthday I'll spend with my Grandpa.

Yesterday morning we got a phone call saying my grandpa wasn't doing well and they suggested we all get there as soon as possible.  So I packed Kyla up and we spent all afternoon at the manor with my family.  But since I have a major momma's girl, she wouldn't go to anyone else and I didn't really get to visit.  We planned on having a little birthday party at my mom's and have dinner and cupcakes.  Tyler had a meeting and I didn't really want to come home and eat by myself so my brother and sister-in-law were nice enough to have us over for pizza and cupcakes.  Kyla got to play with her cousins and take a ride in the Cadillac...

She loved it!  And her cousin Emma is a great driver!  Emma, thank you so much for the card you made me and for the bracelet.  You girls always know how to make Auntie smile!

This morning I headed back to be with my family.  Tyler took the day off to stay home with Kyla.  I am so thankful for that!  It meant a lot to me to be able to be there today.  Thank you so much, Tyler!  We all got to say our final goodbye's and Grandpa left us at 3:45 this afternoon with just Grandma in the room holding his hand.  You hear stories about people waiting until the right moment and he certainly did that.  The rest of us had left the room for only a couple minutes and he knew it was just him and grandma and it was ok.  He was at peace.

They were married for 55 years and were such an inspiration and modeled what marriage is all about.  I'm sure they had hard times just like everyone else, but they loved each other unconditionally.  And they've been there for each other through sickness and health.  Thank you both for showing us all what true love is!

Grandpa, I love you so much and we will miss you!  I'm thankful that you and Grandma decided to move back from Arizona 2 1/2 years ago so we could all see you more often.  We will watch over Grandma and take good care of her.  I am so happy that Kyla got to meet you.  Although she may not remember, we will always share our memories with her.  I couldn't believe it on my way home tonight, I saw a shooting star right in front of me.  It made me smile :)  Please say hi to my Grandma Eunice.  Tell her I love her and miss her a lot!

And now, forgive me Grandpa, but I must watch my Brewers beat your Diamondbacks :)  LOVE YOU!

  1. Perfectly said Amy, Grandpa will be missed and we too are so thankful to have had him here in WI for the last few years. We all have a new angel watching over us. Or as I put it to the girls, Grandpa is hanging out with Uncle Jim in heaven keeping a close eye on us! Kiss and hug Kyla a little tighter tonight as I did my girls, we never know what tomorrow brings. Good night Amy.
